Responsible office: Straßenverkehrsamt Essen in the Westviertel
All Essen plates (E) are issued by the Straßenverkehrsamt at Altendorfer Straße 101, 45143 Essen (Westviertel district, phone 0201 883-3999). Since January 2026 this is the only central location – the former branches in Steele and Borbeck no longer process registrations. Anyone still heading to the old Steele address will find a closed door. With us you skip the drive and the appointment hunt entirely.
The centralisation has a noticeable consequence: what used to be spread across three locations now runs through a single counter area for a city of more than 590,000 people. That is exactly why going through a power of attorney pays off – you are no longer competing for appointments, we take care of it.
What about the online route via i-Kfz?
The City of Essen is connected to internet-based vehicle registration (i-Kfz) – in theory you can register, re-register and deregister from home. In practice the route often fails on the prerequisites: you need an ID card with the online ID function activated and its PIN, an NFC-capable smartphone or card reader, and the scratched-off security codes from the vehicle papers – and those only exist on documents issued from 2015 onwards. With an older used car, or an eID that was never activated, the online attempt quickly hits a dead end. Our route works without an eID and without the AusweisApp: enter your details online, sign the power of attorney digitally, done.

The prices are fixed before you place the order: registration from €89.99, change of keeper from €89.99, deregistration €18.29 – total prices including the official fees, itemised separately on the invoice. Licence plates and shipping are shown transparently on top, before you pay. We are a private registration service, not a public authority – we handle the official route for you.
