Careful with the old address: the office has moved
Anyone heading to Duisburg's registration office with an outdated directory can end up at the wrong door. Since March 2024 the Straßenverkehrsamt has been consolidated at Theodor-Heuss-Straße 80, 47167 Duisburg, in the Neumühl district — vehicle registration is in room 1.01 on the first floor. Before that the registration office was based in Duissern, and older listings still point there.

Appointment only — and a short booking window
The city puts it plainly: all visits to the Straßenverkehrsamt are possible by appointment only. Appointments are booked online through the City of Duisburg's own pages, and the booking window reaches up to one week ahead. Opening hours for the registration office are Monday to Thursday 7:30–13:00 and 13:30–16:00, Friday 7:30–13:00.
One change that is easy to miss: from 03.08.2026 payments at the Straßenverkehrsamt are cashless only — bring a card to your appointment.
