Short-term plate (Kurzzeitkennzeichen): for test drives, transfers and TÜV
A short-term plate allows trips for a test drive, transfer or the technical inspection (TÜV) – valid for a maximum of five days. We apply for it on your behalf.
What do I need a short-term plate for?
For test drives, transferring a purchased vehicle to another city, or driving to the technical inspection (TÜV). It is valid for a maximum of five days from issue.
Which documents do I need?
ID card or passport, a special eVB insurance number for short-term plates and – depending on the case – the vehicle papers and valid proof of inspection (TÜV).
Does the vehicle need a valid TÜV?
For trips on public roads a valid technical inspection is usually required. Special rules apply for the drive to the inspection itself – we advise you on the right plate.
What does a short-term plate cost?
The official fee, the plates and our service fee apply – transparently broken down before payment. You apply online, without an appointment at the registration office.
